Sermon Prep
This Sunday I will be heading up to Kentucky to see the birth of my very first grandbaby, Camden Lane Sapp. Let’s just say that I am a little bit excited. I will be praying for the church service and I am excited to hear our guest speaker, Zane Hatch. Zane is going to be sharing about a new ministry that we will be starting here at the church. It is an outreach for people with special needs and their parents and caregivers. There are so many families with children who have autism, down syndrome, and other special needs that make attending church difficult. We want to do all we can to make it possible for these families to be able to worship and serve Jesus as the body of Christ.
This is a ministry that is near and dear to my heart. Growing up, I had an uncle who had down syndrome. Uncle Kenny was the glue that held my mom’s family together (she had 11 brothers and sisters…it was a big Kentucky family!). I learned so much about God’s love, true joy, and innocence by spending time with Uncle Kenny. In addition, one of the most rewarding times in my ministry is when I got to serve for a semester as chaplain for a place called the Baddour Center in Senatobia, MS. Here is a link to their website to learn more about them. I remember spending time here and thinking if we could get the church to love and serve half as much as these residents, we would see God do wonders.
Zane will be speaking from 2 Corinthians 3:2-6 and he will be sharing how our lives testify to God’s love and how when we see the lives of those with special needs, we truly get a glimpse of the love of Christ. Please come and support Zane and learn more about this exciting ministry we are looking to begin very soon.
Updates, Thoughts and More
I want to thank everyone who helped to make our Acton Celebrates America a huge success. Dr. Rawlianne Rangel put together something that was more than a program, but it was a worship service. I was proud of our church. So often, services like this can quickly be reduced to a rah-rah event and leave our faith completely out of it. I believe that when people left the service on Tuesday night, they not only were grateful to live in America but they were grateful for the freedom in Christ.
Even though I will not be here, we will still have our Tuesday men’s meeting at 7:30 am and our Sip and Share bible study on Wednesday at 10 am
Please check the bulletin this Sunday for some important information about Vacation Bible School and about our upcoming Mission trip to Kentucky. I am getting excited.
Did you know that it gets really hot in Texas in the summer? I always try to think of 5 things at the end of each day that I am thankful for throughout the day. One of the things I have been so grateful for is Willis Carrier. If you don’t know who he is, you ought to and you ought to thank God for him. He is the man who invented the air conditioner!
I will be keeping Tory in our office updated about my daughter and the birth of my grandbaby. Many have been asking me to send them updates, and it will be easier for Tory to put something out to everybody at the same time. Please keep Carrie in your prayers that everything goes smoothly.

Joke of the Week
A guy spots a sign outside a house that reads “Talking Dog for Sale.” Intrigued, he walks in.
“So what have you done with your life?” he asks the dog.
“I’ve led a very full life,” says the dog. “I lived in the Alps rescuing avalanche victims. Then I served my country in Iraq. And now I spend my days reading to the residents of a retirement home.”
The guy is flabbergasted. He asks the dog’s owner, “Why on earth would you want to get rid of an incredible dog like that?”
The owner says, “Because he’s a liar! He never did any of that!”
