OUR HISTORY
Acton Methodist Church has deep roots in the community. As early as 1845, Acton, then known as Comanche Peak, was the earliest known settlement in Hood County. However, it wasn’t until the early 1850’s that settlers started to arrive in the area. By 1855, the Union Church was established, with a shared sanctuary built for the various denominations to use. In 1873, the Acton congregants hosted the first Methodist church district conference, but it wasn’t until 1874 that the official Methodist congregation was organized and became a separate church. Additionally at that time, the church purchased land for a sanctuary, school, and burial ground. The White Chapel was built in 1899, which still stands on the property today. The church maintains the White Chapel, and while no longer used for church services, it remains a vital part of the church and is used for smaller events.
In 1908, the congregation had increased and outgrown the White Chapel and a new tabernacle was built. Since then, the church has expanded, adding a new sanctuary, an education building, along with a youth building. In 2023, the church went through another transformation, becoming an independent congregation focusing on scripture. Today, we are a thriving member of the local community offering various worship services, ministries, and fellowship groups, with an overarching mission to serve locally, nationally, and globally. Here at Acton Methodist Church, there is something for everyone, and everyone is welcome
